The just announced Surtees/Yamaha Grand Prize for the 2021 Hutchwilco New Zealand Boat Show will again be a huge incentive for interested Kiwis to attend the country’s largest, longest running and most popular boat show.

The 2021 Grand Prize has been designed, built, outfitted and set up for both serious fishing and cruising with family and friends in safely, comfort and with success anywhere around the coast.

It includes a Surtees 7.5-metre 750 Game Fisher enclosed cabin, a Yamaha F250 four-stroke outboard complete with Helm Master EX boat control system, a custom tandem Hosking trailer, a comprehensive Garmin electronics package and much more.

The Grand Prize has a retail value of over $250,000 and will be drawn shortly after the show’s close on May 16, 2021.

Anyone who buys a show tickets (either at the gate or online) will be eligible to enter the Grand Prize draw, with those buying online (from www.boatshow.co.nz) receiving a additional bonus entry.

The boat:

Like all Surtees boats, the Grand Prize’s 7.5-metre 750 Game Fisher enclosed cabin features the company’s famous Surtees SiQ™ technology package. Designed to improve both stability (at rest and underway) and handling in a wide range of conditions, this includes Anti-Roll™ ballast stability control with Anti-Roll Lock™, Razortech™ smooth riding hull, Tough Deck™ super rigid hull construction, Safety Buoyancy airtight flotation compartments, the Quik-Hitch™ trailer catch system and Surtees’ 10-year hull warranty.

The striking 2021 Grand Prize boat also features a large, 400-litre fuel tank for extended offshore cruising, 530 litres of water ballast for even greater stability both underway and at rest and an eye-catching wrap courtesy of Brave Design.

For those keen to overnight, there is an 80-litre fresh water tank, connected to an electric hot water shower and sink, an Engel electric fridge and an electric toilet. There is also a handy walk-through transom above a live bait tank, an enclosed platform complete with a boarding ladder and protective pushpits for safer fishing in offshore waters and the latest Surtees bait station with four rod holders, a handy tackle drawer and ski pole.

The Grand Prize also features Surtees’ impressive new 2020 dash layout and there are twin hatches in the cabin roof and sliding rear windows in the cabin’s rear bulkhead for greater airflow and better communication with those in the cockpit.

The engine:

Employing the very latest technology, the Grand Prize’s Yamaha F250 XCA delivers unrivalled big power performance and incredible economy.

Featuring a new generation 4.2 litre, big bore V6, this offshore outboard has the largest capacity in its class yet weighs in at just 253kgs! This unbelievable power-to-weight ratio is achieved through the use of an innovative plasma-fused sleeveless cylinder design, which greatly reduces the overall cylinder weight while achieving increased engine capacity.

And the innovations don’t stop there. The Grand Prize’s 250hp V6 outboard also comes with Yamaha’s unique new Helm Master EX: the world’s first fully integrated boat control system for a single engine. Featuring a full-manoeuvrability joystick, digital electronic control, digital electric steering and Yamaha autopilot, Helm Master EX delivers an unprecedented level of control and navigation for a single-engine boat. Helm Master EX also boasts new single-function buttons to engage popular Helm Master modes such Drift Point and Fish Point.

The trailer

Specially designed and built for the 2021 Surtees/Yamaha Grand Prize, the Hosking Trailers custom tandem trailer comes complete with a Trailparts Credo Direct Brake system and wireless brake controller. These will allow the lucky winner to simply “plug in and go”, using any vehicle with a 3500kg towing capacity to safely tow their Grand Prize package, without having to install a hard-wired brake controller.

The custom Hosking trailer will also feature a USA made Fulton XLT 4,500kg electric winch, a NZ-made 15:1 manual winch as back up and 40 Jakaar multi rollers to make the Grand Prize easy to retrieve after a day’s boating and fishing.

Rated to 3500kg, the maximum for a light trailer on New Zealand roads, the Surtees/Yamaha Grand Prize’s Hosking custom trailer will also be fitted with Treadway light commercial tyres, fantastic-looking alloy rims and a Trojan stainless steel brake system (calipers, rotors and braided hose) to ensure these vital components remain rust-free.

The electronics:

The 2021 Surtees/Yamaha Grand Prize will also come with a comprehensive Garmin marine electronics package featuring everything the lucky winner will need to safely navigate to and from their favourite offshore fishing spots and quickly and easily locate the reefs, pinnacles, depressions and, of course, fish once there.

At the heart of the Garmin system is a GPSMAP 8416xsv MFD, in pride of place in the new 2020 Surtees dash. This will be handily linked to GPSMap 952xs, Blue Chart g2 in the cockpit. Connected to these display screens will be a GMR Fantom 24 radar and a Garmin GT51M-TM, Xdcr, 12pin, Trad:mid CHIRP fishfinder, complete with an Airmar TM185M, 8-pin, 1kw CHIRP transom-mounted transducer. The Garmin marine electronics system will also come with VHF115i radio and VPC023R charts.

The extras:

To hold the Surtees/Yamaha Grand Prize in position over a deep water reef or ensure it drifts in a controlled matter, a specially-designed-for-bigger-boats remote controlled 87in Minn Kota electric trolling motor will be installed on the bow, complete with quick release bracket and socket.

For those times when the winner does wish to drop anchor, the dashboard-controlled Lone Star GX3 Drum Winch will make sure it is quickly and easily deployed and retrieved.

For great sounds onboard, there is a Fusion MS-RA770 Apollo marine stereo, connected to 4in cabin speakers, 7.7in LED deck speakers and a 10in LED subwoofer, all effortlessly controlled by wireless remotes.

To ensure the Grand Prize is always looking its very best SeaDek protective panels will be on installed on the cockpit floor, on the side decks and on the platform.

There will be a full Hellamarine LED lighting package throughout, too. In addition to the navigation and trailer lights, the package will include red/white lighting in the cabin for safe night-time navigation, spotlights for night fishing, blue lights for the livebait tanks and strip lighting for setting the mood.

Other practical extras included in this stunning package are the Ocean Blue outriggers, twin Hi Tech Plastic carbon deluxe bolstered seats, three Exalto Pantagraph wipers, a large Icey Tek chilly bin, Century Batteries battery banks, a Jabsco washdown pump and a ScanStrut waterproof wireless 12V phone charger.

And even more!

The Hutchwilco New Zealand Boat Show’s 2021 Surtees/Yamaha Grand Prize will also come with a complete set of Okuma fishing gear. Designed to target large kingfish and snapper, the 8 combination rod and reel sets are worth over $5000 and feature Makaira livebait combos, Cavella and Tournament Concept jigging combos, Azores 65 topwater combos and Coronado 60/Nanomatrix Plus strayline sets.

Also included in the prize package are a full set of Hutchwilco lifejackjets, along with a grab bag and dry gear bag; an Oceansignal EPIRB and a year’s worth of Yamaha Marine Insurance. There is even a Lifetime Coastguard Membership and a Coastguard Day Skipper Course included, too.
