Update 9am 28/08/2024: there is a brief note from the Coastguard, “Unfortunately, after an exhaustive effort, the search was called off at around 10pm. Our thoughts are with the whanāu of the missing person during this distressing time.”
27/08/2024: The Coastguard has reported on their Facebook page that two people were onboard a vessel that got into difficulty in the water near Puketutu Island. One swam to shore and raised the alarm, the other is not yet accounted for.

Volunteers from Titirangi Volunteer Coastguard and Papakura Coastguard are currently searching for a missing person that was last seen in the Manukau Harbour near Puketutu Island earlier this evening.
Two individuals were onboard a boat that encountered difficulties. One person swam to shore and alerted the New Zealand Police, while the other remains unaccounted for.
Search conditions are challenging due to swell and darkness but our volunteers that are out on the water on three rescue vessels are committed to doing all they can to try find the missing person.
Auckland Airport’s hovercraft is also assisting in the search.
