Revolutionary electric hydrofoil boat to be showcased at the entry to the show

The Candela C-8, the world’s most advanced electric hydrofoiling boat, is set to make its New Zealand premiere at the Auckland Boat Show this weekend, running from March 6 to 9, 2025. Positioned at the entry to the Viaduct Events Centre, the C-8 will be one of the first vessels visitors see as they step into the show, offering a glimpse
into the future of sustainable, high-performance boating.

With a legacy of pushing the limits of hydrofoil technology, New Zealand has long been a beacon for innovation on the water. From the foiling breakthroughs of the America’s Cup to the nation’s deep-rooted sailing culture, Kiwis have always been at the forefront of efficiency, speed, and connection to the sea. The arrival of the Candela C-8 brings this spirit of innovation to the world of electric powerboating, using hydrofoils to fly above the water, dramatically reducing drag, energy consumption, and noise.

Brought to New Zealand by Carbon Yachts, the exclusive distributor for Candela Boats in Australia and New Zealand, the C-8 aligns with the company’s commitment to introducing cutting-edge, sustainable marine solutions to the region. The C-8 is the world’s first serially produced electric hydrofoil boat, with over 70 vessels delivered to customers worldwide.

Sailors often talk about the unique silence of being under sail, feeling at one with the water—an experience that has rarely translated into powerboating. But according to Dominic Lowe, who leads Carbon Yachts New Zealand and has a background in sailing, the Candela C-8 comes remarkably close: “Sailing has always been about more than just movement—it’s about feeling truly connected to the water, in tune with the wind and the sea. The Candela C-8 captures that same sensation in a powerboat. When you’re flying above the surface on the hydrofoils, there’s no engine noise, no hull slamming, no resistance—just pure silence and an effortless glide. It’s a completely new way to
experience boating, and once you’ve tried it, there’s no going back.”

New Zealand is already embracing Candela’s hydrofoil technology beyond leisure boating, with an order placed for a Candela P-12 electric ferry, further solidifying the country’s position as a leader in the shift toward innovative and sustainable marine transportation.

To mark this milestone, Candela Founder and CEO Gustav Hasselskog will be in Auckland for the opening of the Auckland Boat Show, underscoring Candela’s commitment to revolutionising boating in New Zealand and beyond.

The Candela C-8 will be on display at the Viaduct Events Centre entrance throughout the show, giving visitors a rare chance to see the future of electric boating up close.
