Since 1999, Propspeed has been at the forefront of marine innovation, recognised globally for their reliable and efficient foul-release coatings that help boat owners enhance performance, reduce fuel costs, and safeguard their investments. A Quarter Century of Innovation and Growth

Founded in 1999, Propspeed began with a singular focus – to create high-performance coatings that protect propellers, running gear, and other underwater metals from marine growth and corrosion. Their flagship product, Propspeed, quickly gained popularity in the marine industry, recognised for its superior performance and long-lasting results. Propspeed coatings significantly improve a boat’s performance by reducing drag, improving fuel efficiency, and lowering operational costs.

Over the past 25 years, Propspeed has grown from a local New Zealand company into a global leader in marine protection, with its products being used by boat owners and marine professionals worldwide. They have expanded their product line to address a variety of underwater protection needs and have built strong partnerships across the marine industry. This expansion has helped Propspeed maintain its competitive edge and solidified its reputation as a company that consistently delivers results.

A Range of Products Designed for Marine Protection

Propspeed’s product range has grown over the years, with the company offering three key foul-release coatings designed to protect various underwater components:

  1. Propspeed – The company’s signature product, designed for protecting underwater metals such as propellers and running gear. It remains a top choice for marine professionals and recreational boaters, offering unmatched protection from marine growth and corrosion.
  2. Foulfree™ – A specialised foul-release coating developed for transducers. Foulfree™ prevents marine growth on transducers, ensuring accurate readings and maintaining the efficiency of underwater sensors. This product has been endorsed by AIRMAR, a leading transducer manufacturer, further boosting its credibility.
  3. Lightspeed™ – A foul-release coating specifically designed for underwater lights. Lightspeed™ prevents marine growth from covering lights, helping to maintain their brightness and efficiency while ensuring longer-lasting performance.

This year, Propspeed introduced Stripspeed™, a solvent-based paint stripper specifically formulated for the easy and effective removal of Propspeed and other foul-release coatings. Stripspeed™ adds a new dimension to Propspeed’s offerings, simplifying maintenance for boat owners and making it easier to reapply fresh coatings when needed.

Global Recognition and Environmental Impact

Over the years, Propspeed’s coatings have been used in various marine sectors, from recreational boating to commercial vessels and even defence applications. Their products have been tried and tested in a variety of environments, from tropical waters to colder climates, consistently delivering high performance and reducing the accumulation of marine growth on underwater components. This global recognition has reinforced Propspeed’s position as a trusted name in marine protection.

Netherlands-based shipbuilder Padmos conducted an independent test in conjunction with Techbinder, a data-driven vessel optimization technology firm, of the Propspeed system on one of their vessels, with results concluding that Propspeed significantly reduced fuel and power consumption as well as the load on the vessel.

In addition to improving performance and lowering operational costs, Propspeed’s coatings offer significant environmental benefits. By reducing drag and improving fuel efficiency, these coatings help vessels reduce their carbon footprint. This is particularly important as the marine industry moves towards more sustainable practices and eco-friendly solutions. The use of foul-release coatings like Propspeed also eliminates the need for harmful anti-fouling paints that can leach toxins into the ocean, making Propspeed a greener choice for the environmentally conscious boater.

25 Years of Success

As Propspeed marks its 25th anniversary, it reflects on the many milestones that have shaped the company’s journey. From their first breakthrough product to their global expansion and the development of new solutions, Propspeed has maintained a clear focus on innovation and performance. The company has been recognised not only for the effectiveness of its products but also for its commitment to customer satisfaction and industry leadership.

The company continues to build on its reputation for excellence, ensuring that boat owners can trust Propspeed to keep their vessels in top condition for years to come.

The Future of Propspeed

Looking ahead, Propspeed shows no signs of slowing down. The marine industry is evolving, and so is Propspeed. With sustainability becoming an increasing focus, the company is well-positioned to continue developing products that help boat owners improve performance while minimising their environmental impact. As they look toward the next 25 years, Propspeed’s commitment to innovation, quality, and environmental responsibility will remain at the core of their mission.

For boat owners and marine professionals, Propspeed’s foul-release coatings are a proven solution that delivers reliable results year after year. Whether it’s protecting propellers, transducers, or underwater lights, Propspeed continues to be a name synonymous with superior marine protection.

As they mark 25 years of success, Propspeed remains focused on the future⏤ready to lead the way in the next generation of marine technology and innovation.
