Well-known and respected fishing charter operation Epic Adventures is just the latest commercial operator to switch to Yamaha four-stroke outboards.

With operations in Russell in the Bay of Islands and Whitianga in the Coromandel, the group has begun transitioning its five-vessel fleet of Senator RH770s to Yamaha outboard power. The most recent re-power being fitted with Yamaha’s latest F250 four-stroke outboard.

Epic Adventurers Director Bruce O’Brien says its fleet of fishing charter boats do a lot of hours and with that, they need reliability on the water for their business and customers.

“Reliability is important for us, and so is the ease of service and having a dealer with parts supply on hand. We can’t afford to wait for parts to arrive. It has to be immediate to ensure we are back on the water quickly,” says O’Brien.
“Given the nature of our business and the type of boating we do, we can wear out parts quicker than most other users. This is simply down to the sheer number of hours we do on the water.

And clock up the hours they do. Every boat spends around 200 days a year on the water, accumulating 8-10 hours a day.

“As you can imagine, we clock up the hours quickly. Each motor doing between 1800 and 2000 hours a year.

“Our skippers and boats can’t afford time off the water to get servicing done, so we partner with local dealers to ensure the quickest turn around. A good example of this is Whitianga Marine in the Coromandel. A Yamaha dealer who has the ability to service the engines overnight. This kind of relationship is hugely valuable to us.

“That way we can hit the water again first thing in the morning ready to provide another Epic Experience for our customers!”

Yamaha Motor New Zealand’s, Marine National Manager, Richard Shaw, says it’s pleasing to see a growing organisation like Epic Adventures adopt Yamaha outboards for its fleet of vessels.

“Yamaha is renowned globally for the reliability of its outboard engines. We’re thrilled to see Epic Adventures choose us and we look forward to working alongside them via our dealer network.”
