With a newfound focus on boating and an increasing demand for boat berthage, a key Auckland marina asset is now in back in Kiwi hands, after being owned by overseas interests since 2005.

Fairway Bay Marina is a little-known marina of 50 berths tucked away behind Gulf Harbour Marina on the end of the Whangaparaoa Peninsula, in the middle the Hauraki Gulf.

The marina was developed by a Kiwi property developer who dammed off the entrance, excavated the new marina from the limestone bedrock to a depth of 10m and then backfilled 6m to create what is now Fairway Bay Marina.

Future plans for the marina include redesigning the layout to further maximise the existing water space. In the meantime, the alongside berthing is perfectly set up to cater to the growing number of multihull and larger vessels in Auckland, with wide fairways and convenient access to the main Gulf Harbour channel.

The new owners, Godwit Marine (a subsidiary of Covington Group), have appointed Mark Seabrook as the Marina Manager. Mark brings a full suite of business and management skills, as well as a passion for sailing – he has a commercial marketing and business background, is an enthusiastic sailor and has spent years working in the Auckland marine industry.
