Finnish start-up and shared-use boating subscription service, Skipperi, has raised €7M funding.

The company will use the money to fund further expansion into New Zealand, to Brisbane, Australia, and several locations around the US while strengthening its platform and tech team.

Originally established in Finland in 2017, Skipperi expanded into New Zealand in 2021 and has a growing fleet of Haines Hunter SF545 boats, each powered with a Yamaha 115hp four-stroke outboard.

Skipperi Fleet is a shared-use boating subscription service where registered members can enjoy unlimited use of any of the 400+ boats in six countries with just a few taps on an app – with boats in Australia and the US on the way.

Pricing for a Skipperi subscription starts at $310 per month for weekday usage, to $529 a month for usage across a full week with reservation durations 7.5 hours to 24-hour periods.

Skipperi takes care of the boats’ maintenance, equipment, insurance, and boat availability. The majority of Skipperi boaters are experienced skippers, however, as part of the subscription, online courses are provided through the Coast Guard’s boating education platform. Practical training on the boats is also included in the subscription for beginners and more knowledgeable boaters alike.
